Ever wish there was an Expedia like service for shipping packages? Well your search has ended. About a month ago the German-based company Shippo (
@goshippo) released their full API, which is designed to help you save on shipping costs. The company acts as a middleman between shipping providers and the customer, aggregating shipping rates and getting the customer the cheapest possible rate.
The company joined Plug and Play’s Startup Camp in January, shortly before releasing their API.
“We talked to Alireza in August, and we had a very different idea back then. We were looking to make an e-commerce platform that sells international products to international customers. Later we pivoted and came to the conclusion that there’s a lot about the marketing and content side of the e-commerce side that’s not very scalable, so we decided to break it down and focus on shipping only,” Lauren Behrens Wu, CEO of Shippo, said.
Since coming to the startup camp, Shippo released their API and closed a customer base equivalent to roughly 1.5 Million packages a year. They also secured a partnership with Fedex. This drive for success is reflective of an attitude that the Startup Camp strives to foster.
“It’s been going well. I like the peer pressure. It’s good to see other companies preforming and you have to keep up,” Lauren said about her experience.
Shippo is currently testing a pilot of their service with current customers, aiming to ship as many packages as possible before starting their next round of fundraising in March.
“Our goal is definitely on the distribution side,” Lauren remarked about moving forward.
