Plug and Play has been running its quarterly pitch competition for over 5 years. Startups pitch, investors invest, partners partner and winners are declared. It’s all great fun and we cap it off with a party on our beautiful 3,000 square foot outdoor patio. But this fall, our Startup Camp pitch competition and the launch of our Retail Center of Innovation are on a September 12 collision course. A perfect storm of innovation is forming – a Super EXPO.
Over 1,000 applications were reviewed and of those companies, 30 were selected to participate in our 14-week Startup Camp acceleration program. Companies work side by side in our open space pavilion and meet several times per week with high profile entrepreneurs, gurus, and mentors for practical, targeted advice. It’s quite an experience. On September 12 in the afternoon, these 30 companies will pitch to over 300 people. A panel of investors will crown the best. Don’t miss it.
That same morning, Plug and Play will launch its biggest acceleration program to date – the Retail Center of Innovation. Retail is the second largest industry in the US behind Healthcare, but it’s the most accessible and ripe for disruption. Contextual search is coming – phones that can predict what you want to buy and when you want to buy it and advertisers who can then deliver discounts at the moment you are deciding whether to purchase. Retailers are working out the final kinks of same-day delivery. Someone has to be at the center of it all and with our strong corporate network, portfolio of retail technology companies, and our check-wielding CEO, it might as well be us.
